As the largest city in the Commonwealth of Virginia, covering 430 square miles, Suffolk is a growing area and somewhat of a “bedroom community” for more eastern parts of Hampton Roads. Potential residents are drawn to the various lifestyles Suffolk has to offer, including rural, suburban, urban, and historic districts. With 8,000 acres of lakes and many miles of land along the Nansemond River and its offshoots, there are abundant waterfront living opportunities. Suffolk residents experience the benefits of small town living while being within close proximity of larger cities. Suffolk is located just 20 minutes from Norfolk, an hour from Williamsburg and Virginia Beach, 1.5 hours from the Outer Banks and Richmond, 2.5 hours from the central Virginia mountain region and Blue Ridge Parkway, and 3.5 hours from Washington, DC. There are two international airports within 45 minutes of Suffolk – Norfolk International Airport and Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport.
